Trauma-Informed Christian Psychotherapy in Tampa & Orlando

Key Philosophical Considerations
For the spiritually minded, I also offer a faith-based approach in my integrated therapy practice. This approach combines diverse therapeutic techniques with an individual’s spiritual or religious beliefs. Peer-reviewed clinical research has increasingly recognized that faith can be a powerful resource for healing and emotional well-being.
At LEAPS, our Christian trauma therapy services in Tampa and Orlando help individuals reconnect with their spiritual values while addressing deep emotional wounds. Whether you’re managing PTSD, anxiety, grief, or life transitions, our trauma-informed and faith-aligned therapy offers a safe and compassionate path forward.
Conceptual and Ethical Considerations
At LEAPS, we remain both cognizant and sensitive to EVERY client’s individual belief and practice and INTENTIONALLY avoid imposing ANY faith-based views on those who are not spiritually minded. Christian psychotherapy integrates the Christian faith and its biblical principles into traditional mental health psychotherapy. It recognizes the spiritual dimension of a person’s well-being as it is interwoven with the psychological, social, and biological components of the human psyche and emotions.
Christian psychotherapy and counseling seek to address mental health challenges through the process of integrating faith-based approaches with traditional Christian values and beliefs. Integrated faith-based therapy incorporates both religious and spiritual foundation beliefs, tenets, and practices into an individual’s mental and emotional well-being. Faith becomes an underpinning element of the overall therapeutic process.
How It Works
The Christian approach can inform practice by using The Bible or other relevant religious texts, incorporating prayer, mindfulness meditation, and/or exploring personal spiritual experiences. Research has supported the view that faith-based principles may be used to complement mental health treatment for stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Key components to Christian psychotherapy include:
- The integration of Biblical faith which incorporates Christian theological tenets, beliefs, and values into the therapeutic process
- Using deep-rooted faith as another resource to overcome hopelessness and to bring healing and wholeness
- Drawing on biblical principles to offer insights and perspectives on life challenges and personal growth
- Embracing the role of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit in the mental health healing process
- A comprehensive approach that espouses healing and deliverance for the whole person: physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being
- The utilization of evidence-based therapeutic techniques and interventions
Christian clients in Florida benefit from a unique counseling experience that blends trauma-informed care with the hope found in faith. Our services are available throughout Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, and Orlando. Biblical counseling, Christian trauma therapy, and spiritual care are integrated to restore wholeness.
Benefits of Trauma-informed Evidence-based Therapeutic Approaches
Studies suggest that integrating faith into psychotherapy can be as effective, or even more effective, than secular treatments for religious clients. Specifically, individual, couples, and familial faith may provide additional sources of hope, encouragement, meaning, bonding, and community, which are crucial for cognitive, emotional, and physical healing.

Negative mood and cognition may also be examined from the client/patient perspective using a Christian Worldview lens. The Bible provides meaningful insight regarding negative mood and thoughts. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (Prov. 23:7). Phil. 4:8 suggests focusing on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.
The apostle Paul gives further biblical insight regarding the battle that goes on in the human mind (Rom. 12:1–2; 2 Cor. 10:5). Christian practitioners may integrate our Christian faith by acknowledging the power of prayer, Bible study, and worship to help overcome negative thoughts associated with PTSD distress like fear, guilt, and shame (Phil. 4:6–7; 2 Tim. 1:7; Heb. 12:2).
